Jacinta Perez Gavilan Torres

I started my yoga journey back in 2008 during my studies in Mexico City at my local gym. I was immediately amazed at the difference I felt in myself after class. Later, in 2012 I moved to Cologne, Germany, to pursue PhD studies in mathematics. Although I am still a passionate mathematician, long hours at my desk and never feeling “smart enough” took a toll on me back then and I developed severe neck problems which were posture and stress related. It was then that, after visiting various doctors, I walked into an Ashtanga class, and began a long journey of learning with my teacher Beate Guttandin, who was a student of the late Pattabi Jois. After some time I decided that I should not keep this amazing practice to myself, so I got rid of my furniture and started to teach at my place. At the same time I decided to undertake a teacher training course with my teacher Beate which I completed in 2019 after three years. Since then I have continued teaching at home, online and even at the library. My teaching style is friendly and focused on breath and awareness of movement. My aim as a teacher is to help my students follow their own yoga paths!
